Seeds of Freedom
Spring is here!
Sunshine, warmer temperatures, April showers, and May flowers. And Dandelions.
Clumps of white puffballs and yellow flowers scattered throughout the yard. The image brings back childhood memories of blowing the feathery seed heads and watching them airily float away—blow them off all at once and your wish came true!
Does the image bring a smile to your face or do you think, “Ugh—my lawn is ruined; where’s the weed killer”?
Dandelion roots run deep. They’re resilient as they anchor deep into the soil. Their seeds beautifully take flight, spreading the potential for transformational growth far and wide. What do you see—a field of deep-rooted sunshine or a field of deep-rooted problems?
Just as we have no control over where dandelion seeds land, we cannot control the first negative thought that pops into our minds. But we can choose the next thought and our next action. Not every thought is true and not every thought requires attention. We can learn to reframe our negative thoughts and align them with positive, more adaptive perspectives. We can transform adversity and struggle into opportunities for reflection, growth, healing, a greater hope for the future.
What do you see?
I often ask my clients to look at a picture of a black dot on a white sheet of paper and tell me what they see:
“A black dot”.
With some encouragement to look again, they will acknowledge the white space but like many of us, all they initially see is the problem.
When faced with your next “black dot”, try asking yourself, “What is this situation inviting me to see”?
Ancient physicians and modern day herbalists testify to the health and healing properties of the dandelion—from salad greens to soothing aches and indigestion. In the same way, we can turn our thoughts into seeds of healing and hope for ourselves and others. Through a spiritual lens, we can live out our faith and share the message of Christ's love through the thoughts and words we share.
Dandelion faith can produce seeds of freedom. Stay rooted and anchored in your faith and values. Be transformed as you renew your mind.
LIFT Counseling was born out of the desire to spread seeds of hope, encouragement, and strengthen a client’s belief in their ability to overcome challenges and live each day with a greater sense of freedom. Contact me for help with your journey,
